Similar to Jordan Walden, Matt Latos soared up prospect lists over the past year. Blessed with a picture perfect pitcher's frame at 6'5", 205 pounds, Latos' stuff has been improving as he has been filling out his frame. He approached the upper-90s early in the summer of 2005, and pitched comfortably in the 91-93 range with his fastball. His curveball also improved over the past year as Latos has become more comfortable with that pitch. A very good, natural athlete, Latos is also a very good hitter even if his future is without a doubt on the mound. Given his tall, projectable frame, he will have to make sure to maintain his mechanics, but he currently repeats his delivery very well. Given his size and stuff, Latos could easily continue to climb draft charts as we approach the 2006 draft.
