| Brewer fans may remember Arrieta's name, as he was the Crew's 26th round pick in the 2005 draft out of Weatherford (TX) College. The Brewers hoped to follow Arrieta through the following spring as a draft and follow candidate, but Arrieta transferred to TCU. The Brewers were right to show early interest in him, as Arrieta improved his command and stuff last spring, and carried that success over to the summer pitching for Team USA. He has a very good, strong build that should be able to sustain the rigors of pitching deep into ballgames every fifth day. His fastball sits in the low-90s, and he commands the pitch very well. His slider is a plus offering when its working for him, and he has a good enough changeup to keep hitters honest. His mechanics could use some work, but he has improved his stock to the point where he's a legitimate prospect for the first round. |
