Simmons struck out 44 batters and walked only 5 in 53 innings on the Cape last summer, which helped establish him as one of the more intriguing prospects for the 2007 draft. He records the majority of his outs by commanding the strike zone extremely well, using a cutter-changeup combination that frustrates hitters. Despite his athletic, projectable frame, Simmons only throws in the upper-80s, and his curveball isn't a true strikeout pitch. If he enjoys a spike of velocity and/or more bite on his breaking ball, his stock could soar next spring.
