Grandal, an Aflac All-American during the summer of 2006, is known more for his defense than he is for his bat. He is the complete package behind the plate, with very quick, cat-like reflexes, soft hands and a strong throwing arm. He handles a pitching staff well with natural leadership skills, and overall makes the position look easy. While his bat isn't as developed as his defense, he has shown flashes of being a decent offensive contributor. His bat speed is solid, and he has some power potential. He does show a decent eye at the plate, although there are some holes in his swing. He has committed to play close to home for the Miami Hurricanes, who always seem to land good defensive catchers.
