Profile: Darwin Barney
photo: Darwin Barney
Name: Darwin Barney
Height/Weight: 5-10 / 175
Date of Birth: 11/8/85
School: Oregon State Rank: 94
A shorter player that doesn't have much power in his bat, Barney makes the most of his physical gifts and continually overcomes the odds and those that doubt his ability. While he doesn't have much power, he does have a nice contact bat, and he is a good situational hitter that knows how to hit the other way and drive the ball into the ground to let him use his game-changing speed to get on base and create more problems. His speed is hit best attribute, and he is an accomplished base-stealer. He profiles best at second base since he doesn't have the prototypical tools to play shortstop, but he has done an admirable job playing short for the College World Series Champion Oregon State Beavers. His ceiling is definitely limited, but he's a good ballplayer and should enjoy success at the professional level.
