Ahrens is an athletic infield prospect that currently plays shortstop, but is expected to slide over to third base at the next level. His best attribute is his switch-hitting bat, as he makes hard contact from both sides of the plate and shows very exciting power potential. He has a strong arm for either position on the left-side of the infield, and some have even suggested that he could handle the duties behind the plate as a catcher. Converting his glove may slow his bat, which could allow him to advance through a system relatively quickly. There is increased rumbling that Ahrens may sneak into the first round, and could possibly go in the first half to a team looking for a relatively easy and quick signing. He has committed to play for Texas A&M.
