Thames was eligible for the draft a year ago as a sophomore, and decided to return to Pepperdine after the Yankees took him in the 29th (?) round. Scouts have been waiting for his game, and in particular his power, to explode, and he started to show his true abilities last summer when he was named the top prospect in the Northwoods League. With a patient approach, he hits the ball hard up the middle and the other way. That approach has allowed his power to develop later in his college career. He has some speed, and has a knack for legging out triples. While he can play centerfield, his range is best suited for left, as is his fringe average arm strength. Thames
