James is a solid left-handed pitching prospect across the board. You start with a very good pitching frame, particularly for a lefty, which leads many to believe that his fastball, which currently sits in the upper-80s and maxes out around 90, will continue to get better. He looked very good last summer and into the fall, maintaining that velocity from one major showcase event to the next. His fastball grades out even higher given how well he commands the pitch. He changes speeds very well by mixing in a big, slow-breaking low-70s curveball and a changeup, giving him a solid three-pitch repertoire that he pounds the strike zone with. He is a very good overall athlete that can also swing the bat. His value lies on the mound, and he has committed to play for Oklahoma State, a school with a knack for recruiting and developing left-handed starters.
