Quintile Analysis of Baseball Salaries

Much has been made about the robust growth of baseball salaries and its effect on the competitive balance of the game. With this in mind I compiled the total payrolls of the Major League Baseball teams from information provided by the USA Today Baseball Salaries database (http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/salaries/default.aspx) for the past 10 seasons. I then divided the teams into Quintiles (or Fifths) and created a summary page with data on winning seasons, playoff appearances and World Series championships.

My original intention was to write an article for Brewerfan.net, but I think it would make for better discussion to just post the information and let the great minds here decipher it. With that in mind I
