Brad Woodall, Wisconsin resident, and member of the '98 Brewers met with me today, to discuss his playing career, and his new baseball training facility in Middleton.
This interview was conducted on the new 50,000 square foot indoor playing field at Hitters Sportsplex, learn more at hitterssports.com.
BF: Hi Brad, this place really is brand new, I had to navigate around construction equipment to get in here.
BW: Yep, we'll be installing fixtures and getting things in place right down to the wire, we open December 12th.
BF: This place is enormous, and this field looks awesome, what is that surface?
BW: That's ProGrass, it's the baseball equivalent of the football surface at Camp Randall, (football home of the Wisconsin Badgers), you can play almost anything on it.
BF: I've never seen anything like this, how big is this field?
BW: It's 50,000 square feet, we're doing this to give kids up here the chance to play through the winter, the way the kids in the south do. We didn't just buy a warehouse and throw in a field, a great deal of planning went into everything, and it's all brand new.
BF: This has got to be a first for this area.
BW: We did a ton of market research, I called old friends from throughout the game, none of them had ever heard of one like it. When I'd tell 'em the field was 50,000 sq ft, they'd all stop me and say, "What?!"
BF: Thanks for letting me come in today, let's talk about your playing career.
BW: Absolutely.
BF: You played college ball at North Carolina, but you weren't drafted
