What is the 15-day disabled list?
Players who are injured may be placed on the 15-day disabled list and are removed from the 25-man roster. Once 15 days have elapsed, that player is eligible to be placed back on the 25-man roster. Players on the 15-day disabled list remain on the 40-man roster. A player on the 15-day disabled list can be transferred to the 60-day disabled list at any time. Time spent on the 15-day disabled list will count towards the time spent on the 60-day disabled list. There is no limit to the number of players that can be on the 15-day disabled list.
 
What is the 60-day disabled list?
Players who are injured may be placed on the 60-day disabled list and are removed from the 40-man roster (and the 25-man roster by default). Once 60 days have elapsed, the player is eligible to be placed back on the 40-man roster. A player on the 60-day disabled list cannot be transferred to the 15-day disabled list. If the 40-man roster is not full, the 60-day disabled list cannot be utilized. There is no limit to the number of players that can be on the 60-day disabled list.
 
Is there a 60-day disabled list in the off-season?
No, once the season is over, players on the 60-day disabled list must be transferred back to the 40-man roster or designated for assignment.
 
Is there a disabled list for the minor leagues?
Yes. The minor leagues use a 7-day disabled list.
 
What kind of injury qualifies a player to be on the disabled list?
A player can only be placed on the disabled list if for verified medical reasons. This must be certified by a medical doctor.
 
Can a player be placed on the disabled list retroactively?
Yes. A player can be placed on the disabled list up to 10 days after he is injured. The counter starts the day after the game he last played.
 
What is a rehab assignment?
A player on the disabled list may be sent to the minor leagues to rehabilitate their injury by playing in games. Position players may be on a rehab assignment for 20 days, and pitchers may be on a rehab assignment for 30 days. A player is only allowed one rehab assignment per stint on the disabled list.
