Name: Sam Runion
Height/Weight: 6-4 / 220
Date of Birth: 11/9/88
School: Reynolds (NC) Rank: 46
Runion is a tall and thick right-handed pitcher that shows excellent pitching moxie for his age and size. His physical presence is similar to Andy Benes, with a strong lower half and an overall sturdy base. His fastball sits in the 88-90 range, and can touch 93 with plenty of room for added velocity. He commands his fastball very well, and knows how to work the strike zone while establishing that pitch, which also offers some late, sinking action. His curveball is also a good pitch that he mixes in perfectly to complement his heater. In addition, he also throws a very good changeup, giving Runion an advanced three-pitch repertoire. While he doesn't have the most projectable of frames nor the big-time heater at this point in time, his polished approach and physical stature could allow him to sneak up draft boards next spring.
