Draft & Follow Candidates for 2007

on 02/03/2007

Draft & Follow Candidates for 2007 by Patrick Ebert

It's time to look at the players from the 2006 draft that are eligible for the draft & follow process. For more detailed information about the DFE (Draft, Follow and Evaluate) process, please visit my story from five years ago:

Also, for a review on the 2006 draft, please visit this story:

That story already listed the "ones that got away," but here's the list again, with the round in which they were selected listed first, and the college in which they attended listed in parenthesis. I should note that in that previous story I incorrectly included 26th round pick Marc Lewis and 29th round pick David Newmann as candidates still under the Brewers control, believing they were fifth-year seniors. Lewis is a true senior, and Newmann is a redshirt junior, and they have been added to the ones that got away:

18. Andrew Clark, 1B (Mississippi)
23. Scott Shuman, RHP (Auburn)
26. Marc Lewis, LHP (Creighton University)
29. David Newmann, LHP (Texas A&M)
37. Wes Munson, SS (Missouri)
40. Alexander Koronis, RHP (Miami)

The Brewers will follow 18 DFE candidates this spring, one less than a year ago. This will be the last year of the draft and follow process, as a new rule has been instituted with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement in which all drafted players must sign by August 15th, roughly two months after the draft takes place. There will be no exceptions, so any player not signed by that date will no longer be under control of the team that drafted them two months earlier.

Another item of note is that with the expected increase in international work visas for professional athletes, the Brewers won
