Young is the prototypical contact hitter, spraying line drives from foul line to foul line and rarely failing to put the ball in play when he offers at it. Naturally, he's one of the better two-strike hitters in the game. His tendency to put the ball in play holds his walk total down, though, and he isn't terribly patient to begin with. Even more disturbing is the fact that his plate patience has eroded significantly over the last three years. His extra-base power mostly is limited to gap doubles, but he can bunt a runner over when needed
